The whites loss and getting knocked out of Champions League quarter finals again proved that money can't buy success. The Los Blancos started the game pretty well against Olympique Lyonnais being at home. From the beginning there was no sign of pressure as they lost 1-0 away from home on the first leg. There were injury worries for the Spanish side as they were missing their key midfielder Xabi Alonso but they had Guti Haza coming back from injury.
Real Madrid started the game well and started their scoring only on the 6th minute to equalise the score on the aggregate.Guti gave a very accurate pass over the Lyon defenders for Ronaldo who finishes the ball with goal from a critical right side angle. After this goal Real tried hard to get another goal but unable to break the discipline defence of the French club.Returning from injury Guti again set up a fantastic goal for Argentina international Heguain .Being one on one with the keeper he missed an easy opportunity of putting his team ahead in aggregate.Ronaldo played fantastic on the night and created a lots of chances for scoring but the Galacticos were not able to capitalise on any of their chances. Before half time Pjanic who is now recognised as the second Juniniho took a fantastic free kick which was blocked.
From the beginning of the second half Olympique Lyonnais continues ticking on the Real's goal with their young and fast forward line.At last on the 76th minute Lyon scored an away goal which was enough to knock Real Madrid out.The goal was set by Delgado for Lisandro from which Pjanic scored a 12yard goal.Till the end of the game Real tried to save the spot for quarter finals but it was already too late.
The game was drawn at 1-1 on Santiago Bernabeu but the French Club Lyon get through with a 2-1 win on aggregate.
